Detail (Long)
<b>Characteristic rash:</b> deep-seated and well-circumscribed lesions, often w/ central umbilication; and lesion progression through specific sequential stages—macules, papules, vesicles, pustules, and scabs;2 sometimes confused w/ other, more common diseases (e.g., secondary syphilis, herpes, and varicella zoster). Sporadic accounts of pts coinfected w/ mpox virus and other infectious agents (e.g., VZV, <i>Treponema pallidum</i>) have been reported, so pts w/ a characteristic rash should be considered for testing, even if other tests are positive.1
